Am I living under the rock
that Moses struck?
Were we playing a "Who’s the most important?" game?
Or was it a "Who’s the most remembered?" game?
Either way,
I definitely didn’t win those games.
Five years and two terms,
and yet—
here I am,
wondering how easily
a person can disappear
from the memories
of people they once knew.
Was I properly captured in the picture,
or was I standing at the side
and simply got cropped out?
Maybe I was never
as memorable
as I thought I was.
Maybe I was only
a small part
of a much bigger story.
But I thought
I would at least
be remembered.
I don’t know what hurts more:
being overlooked,
or realizing
how much it hurts
to be overlooked.
So much for being
so alive.
If I had known
this would happen,
maybe I would have cared
a little less
while I was there.
Hi, cameraman.
Please, take a new picture.
Or maybe,
for you reading this,
you don't need to take a new picture.
Just check the old one again.
You were there.
Somewhere in someone’s story,
you will be remembered.
Don’t worry.
